Sick….er, um, SiCCC brakes, dudes

It was inevitable.  Serious mountain and CX races have known this all along.  Disc brakes work.  Extremely well.  Especially in wet and muddy conditions.  Road racers have poo-poo’d it because steel discs adds weight, and unnecessarily complicated – Occam’s Razor comes to mind, ie. the simplest solution is usually the best and correct one.  But traditional brake pads suck in the rain.  And suck even more with carbon wheels.  That’s why big bike companies like Colnago, Time, and Look, and even newer ones like Volagi, Culprit, and Foundry, are building road bikes with disc brakes.

But what about the weight of steel or alloy discs?  Well, wait no longer.

Kettle Cycles have developed carbon composite disc brakes.  To the pedants, silicon carbide, ceramic, and carbon composite.  Or SiCCC brakes.  Initially they are made for mountain bikes, but you can bet your carbon wheelset that application for road bikes isn’t far behind.
