There are benefits/merits of having a triple, compact, or double chain rings, dependent on the individual, the type of bike, the type of riding, etc. We at Bike War are not going to debate the pros and cons of any specific set up. Triple – love it in the mountains, hate it on the Tuesday night group rides. ’99 Trek 5200 – Ultegra 52/42/30
Always on a compact.. never complained about the mountains cause the altitude is not even half of what you guys get ..
Compact on my Road Steed, Triple on my MTB Dualie – for those tougher climbs. What I am keener on is getting the range on the cassette right.
