  1. So, it turns out this is the Starley R1 above. It is manufactured by Zhongwei-UIS Carbon in China. The very same frame I recently ordered direct from Zhongwei. The CB-R-002. Who knew! I didn’t. Well until I viewed a Starley from the Bike show. Anyway, Starley apparently uses the open mold frames for their line. Funny thing is, you can build your own for at one-third of the price- gruppo included. I’m not really keen on the Starley colors except the orange white option for 2014.

    Here is the Z-CB-R-002

  2. One-third to half less- I meant. My build with Ultegra 6700 will come in at about 1670 usd. I think a similar bike from Starley is about 3k

    1. There are quite a few name-brand but open mold bikes…Stradalli, Fezzari, Mathot, Menet, B’Twin, Prorace, just to name a few on some of their model line up. Not necessarily a bad thing like a “China-rello” labelled/sold as the real thing. Thanks for the link!

      1. No this is true, I agree many good bikes have been and are coming out of China and their Open Mold designs. I only know of two right now using Zhongwei-UIS Carbon frames, Starley and Planet X. I wonder who Stadalli uses ( I think they are way over-priced). Anyway, the China bike frames are growing and will force many bike companies to rethink their Business Plans. They are not going away that is for sure.
