Fiberfix Spoke

As much as we prepare for the inevitability of a flat on our rides, while packing just the necessary gear and parts, short of a catastrophic event, one of the things we don’t prepare for is the eventuality of a broken spoke.  While it may be a rarer occurrence than a flat, it happens, and it’ll end the ride quite abruptly.

But how do we go about carrying an extra spoke?  The fix is by carrying one of these kits, the Fiberfix Spoke.  Made of tough Kevlar, it works on both the front and rear wheels (without removal of the freewheel) with a simple twist of a spoke wrench to adjust proper tension.  Then tie off the excess cord and you’re back on your ride, or at least the ability to head home without calling your significant other….:)

The best solutions are often the simplest ones (Occam’s Razor), and we think this is one of them.

  1. An old trick was to unscrew your full-length frame-fitting pump, and keep spare spokes inside the barrel. The only problems: they rattled, and you had to remember to take them out before using the pump in its intended manner!
