Welcome to Tron: Lumigrids Lightning System

We’ve showcased several innovative lighting designs for improving bike safety, and we’re happy to see the Lumigrids LED projector currently being developed for bicycles.  The best designs don’t need a whole lot of explanation, and this is one such design.  It projects square grids in the ground, and the rider will spot any irregularities in the grid translates to irregularities of the road surface.  It’s still a concept, as the designers are still working on the power source.   The designers out of Sichuan University, China, won the Red Dot Award.

  1. What a great and simple invention, but potentially awesome in its application. As a rider who gets a good portion of his mid week rides in at night (to avoid the notorious city traffic), I would be using this for every night ride. Now if only they had one for the rear that would act as a force field for errant motorists.

  2. Yes, we hope it gets to market soon. As for errant motorists, you probably heard just yesterday about the female motorist in Britain who Tweeted her “incident” with a cyclist….sigh. Thanks for commenting!
